Sea Pines Plantation, the place to stay and play on Hilton Head Island. The resort
features three outstanding golf courses including the famed Harbour Town Golf
Links, which was recently renovated by original designer Pete Dye. The course
has never looked better and was recently ranked #12 of the nation's "Top 100
Courses You Can Play" by Golf Digest. Add the Ocean and Sea Marsh courses and
Sea Pines provides a variety of championship caliber golf to rival any resort on the
East Coast. The resort provides guests with a wide choice of accommodation styles
and locations throughout the island. Wherever you choose to stay, you can be assured
of access to world-class resort activities including multiple pool locations, four
restaurants, beautiful beaches, miles of horseback trails, and much more.
Home of the prestigious Heritage of Golf each April, Harbour Town is perennially
ranked among the top golf courses in the world. Good scoring depends on finesse
and shot making rather than strength Well-placed tee shots and approaches are
requisite to good scoring, and the well-protected greens are among the smallest of any tournament
course in the country. Harbour Town's set of par-3s rank among the finest in
the world, and its par-4 18th hole is one of the most feared in all of golf,
particularly when the wind is blowing off Calibogue Sound.
Pete Dye's crowning achievement as a golf course designer, Harbour Town is an innovative
masterpiece and a favorite among Tour pros. Dye returned to oversee a complete
restoration of Harbour Town Golf Links. The course reopened for play December 18, 2000.
Harbour Town Golf Links:
Every year, PGA pros take to the fairway of famed Harbour Town Golf Links to vie
for the champion's tartan jacket at the MCI Heritage. Ranked the #1 course
in South Carolina by Golf Magazine, this is the most sought after course to play
on Hilton Head Island. Designed by Pete Dye in consultation with Jack Nicklaus,
Harbour Town Golf Links is reminiscent of Scottish course of olde. Measuring
6,973 yards from the Heritage tees with a slope of 146, the par-71 course is deceptively
short by today's standards and requires perfectly positioned shots, arrow-straight
accuracy and unwavering consistency on the part of the player.
Ocean Course
The first golf course on Hilton Head Island, the Ocean Course is a scenic Oceanside
experience and a true resort classic. The course was rebuilt in 1995 by Mark
McCumber and features the signature oceanfront 15th hole with panoramic water views.
Lagoons and bunkers add challenge to the traditionally designed course. Ocean is
one of two Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary courses at The Sea Pines Resort.
Sea Marsh Course
The best of the Lowcountry is showcased on the Sea Marsh Course. Meandering fairways
alongside tidal marshes and through lush oak and price woods are the focal point
of George Cobb's 1967 course, revitalized by Clyde Johnston in 1990. While length
is not a factor and fairways are wide, the greens are well bunkered, requiring
exacting approach shots. A visit to Hilton Head Island requires a round on the Certified
Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, which feature the signature 163-yard 13th hole, a picturesque par 3.
